The ETS uses an Accelerometer and a Microcontroller for Tilt Detection. The Microcontroller measures Static Accelerations in X, Y and Z orthogonal axes to calculate Tilt Angle. On Power-On, the Microcontroller calculates and remembers the initial angle. Subsequently, the Microcontrollers sleeps and wakes up at regular intervals to calculate the current angle and deviation from the initial angle.
ETS works in two modes, Absolute and Relative. In Absolute mode, the ETS uses absolute angle from horizontal position and in Relative mode, the ETS uses deviation from the initial angle to generate a pulse output. ETS generates a pulse of 6 VDC magnitude and 1 second duration when the tilt condition i.e. 20 +/- 5 degrees from horizontal or initial position is satisfied.
ETS can replace traditional mercury-based tilt switches due to its increased reliability, accuracy and sturdiness.
